Demonized Daughter Healed Story For Kids With Coloring Pages – Matthew 15:21-31

Jesus Helps a Non-Jewish Woman

Jesus left that place and went to the area of Tyre and Sidon.

A Canaanite woman from that area came to Jesus. The woman cried out, “Lord, Son of David, please help me! My daughter has a demon, and she is suffering very much.”

But Jesus did not answer the woman. So the followers came to Jesus and begged him, “Tell the woman to go away. She is following us and shouting.”

Jesus answered, “God sent me only to the lost sheep, the people of Israel.”

Then the woman came to Jesus again. She bowed before him and said, “Lord, help me!”

Jesus answered, “It is not right to take the children’s bread and give it to the dogs.”

The woman said, “Yes, Lord, but even the dogs eat the pieces of food that fall from their masters’ table.”

Then Jesus answered, “Woman, you have great faith! I will do what you asked me to do.” And at that moment the woman’s daughter was healed.

Teaching guide and Explanation

TEXT: Matthew 15:21-31

MEMORY VERSE: Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil. [Matthew 15:22]

Jesus’ Loving-Kindness

When He was on earth, Jesus was still helping others. He gave them good advice, cured their infirmities, and even revived people from the dead. People learned about the great things he was doing, and everywhere he went, they followed him. He went to the mountains often to be alone and pray to his Heavenly Father. Jesus spent much time praying to God. He instructed others to do so.

People seemed to find Jesus everywhere. He could not hide. How grateful it should be to all people that Jesus can still be found now and that He always helps people who ask for help from Him.

The Syrophoenician miracle is an excellent lesson on confidence. This lady, a Gentile, came to Jesus when he was in Tyre. She begs at first to cure her daughter, to the point of annoying the disciples who ask Jesus to take her away. People who were suffering were never annoyed by Jesus. He came to liberate humanity from all injustice.

Help Need

Have you got a dog? What are you feeding the dog? Canned food for dogs? Dry food for dogs? Do you ever feed the scraps of the table to him? Most veterinarians say you should not feed the scraps of your dog’s table. Why? Why? It was said that table scraps are not intended for dogs and may not supply the needs of a dog. That might be true, but try to convince your dog that he’s sitting at the table watching you enjoy a juicy steak. Perhaps the meal wasn’t intended for him, but that doesn’t keep him from sitting at the table, begging for a little crumb, hoping that only a small bite might fall on the floor for him. Keep that picture in mind as you listen to our lesson in the Bible today.

We read that there was a woman whose young daughter was sick. The mother had heard that Jesus was going to heal the sick, and she came and fell at His feet. She asked Jesus to heal her daughter. Perhaps to see how much she truly trusted Him, Jesus said to her ”I must first take care of the Jewish people”, not the people of his country. He said it wasn’t right to feed the children to the dogs. But the woman didn’t feel hurt that Jesus seemed to call her people dogs if that’s what he meant by what he said. She said the dogs can also eat the crumbs that fell down from the children’s table. Jesus was pleased with her response of faith in Him, and He told her that her daughter had been healed.

Even though Jesus came first to the Jew, he loved us so much that he shared his love with us all. I guess we’re kind of like a dog—even though the food wasn’t specially prepared for us, it doesn’t keep us from enjoying it. We are glad to sit at our Master’s feet and thankfully receive whatever crumbs might fall from the table.

The Grateful Mother

The woman must have gone away very happy and grateful. When she came home, she discovered that Jesus had done just what he said he was going to do—he had done well to the girl.

Jesus had made many mothers grateful to Him for healing their children when they were sick. Little children, too, prayed, and Jesus healed them just as He healed the daughter of that woman many years ago. He’s just the same Jesus today, and he’s going to heal all who trust Him.

The Great Power of God

We may be very surprised at who has faith in Jesus Christ. We certainly can’t tell the color of people’s skin or where it comes from. In today’s Bible reading, Jesus saw a woman who was considered by others to be an outsider who could not possibly be drawn to God. It turned out, however, that she had great belief in Jesus. Jesus heard her prayer in response to her faith, healing her daughter.

Jesus has healed people in many countries, in many ways, and in many kinds of diseases. After he made the woman happy by healing her daughter, he went to another country where there were people who needed him. Jesus knows where the people who want Him and need Him are. When He came to the other country, people soon heard that He was there, and they came to be healed with their sick.

They brought a man who was deaf and could not speak plainly. All Jesus needed to do was say the word, and the people would be healed. He would touch them and heal them sometimes. He touched the ears and tongue of this sick man, and he looked up to heaven, and said, “Be opened” and so the man could hear and speak.

Oh, thankfulness

Jesus has spoken to the hearts of the deaf, and He has saved them. They sometimes tell of God’s great kindness to them by pointing to heaven, pointing to their hearts, and holding up the Bible. It’s not hard to tell what they mean because their faces show how happy they are to be saved. Some were also sanctified and received the baptism of the Holy Ghost. Actually, not all deaf people receive their healing, we know that one day “the ears of the deaf will not be stopped and the tongue of the dumb will sing” [Isaiah 35:5]; [Isaiah 35:6]). Several of our dear ones who have worshiped the Lord with us and served Him faithfully for so many years have gone home to be with Jesus. We believe they’re singing around the throne.

The lesson learned from this miracle is that begging and crying doesn’t move God. It’s our faith in Jesus, the word that moves the mountains. If you have a need, find out what the word says about it and speak/pray/act boldly and receive your miracle.

PRAYER: Lord God, thank you for the many different people all over the world who are followers of Christ.

Help us to have full confidence in you, like this woman whom Jesus met. – We ask this in the name of Jesus – Amen!
