Spiritual growth is a very important aspect in a Christian life. God wants us to grow. He doesn’t want us to be just a Christian, He wants us to be a strong Christian, He wants us to know Him more, and He wants us to be strong in faith.

God told us in his word to be strong in Him, and in the strength of his might, Ephesians 6: 10. He made us know that as a Christian, we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against authorities and spiritual forces of evil, Ephesians 6:12-13. Therefore we need to grow stronger and be strong in faith. So how do you do that?

Build a Relationship with God

Building a relationship with God is the first thing to do to grow stronger. Being a Christian isn’t just about going to church every Sunday, you need to have a personal relationship with God. You need to be close to him to the extent that He can call you His friend. Abraham built a relationship of obedience and faith with God and God called him his friend. You also can do the same; you can build a relationship of obedience, faith and holiness with God.

Live a Life of Faith

If you want to grow stronger, then you need to live a life of faith. You need to build a faith that can stand the test of time. The word of God told us in Ephesians 5:16 that, “we should take up the shield of faith, with which we can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one.”

The bible also tells us that, “without faith, we can’t please God” (Hebrews 11:6). Faith is a very important part of us as a Christian, so if you want to grow stronger, you need to build up your faith, a faith that stands in times of temptation and trials.

Live a Life of Obedience

As I have told you, Abraham builds a relationship of faith and obedience with God and he was called a friend of God. If you want to be strong in the Lord, you need to obey Him; you need to allow him lead you in all your ways, John 14:21.

Rely Constantly on the Holy Spirit

Always rely on the Holy Spirit for help in time of weakness. Always listen to the Holy Spirit within you, do not turn deaf hears when he is speaking to you. Let him take over your choices and decisions. He sees what you didn’t see and knows what you didn’t know, Romans 8:26.

Meditate on the Word of God Daily

When you meditate on the word of God, you know more about Him. Do not just skim through the bible; take your time to meditate on his word. His word comforts, corrects, encourages, guides and help build your faith. Psalm 119:105, 2 Timothy 3:16-17.

Pray Without Ceasing

Prayer is an important part of our life as a Christian. We communicate with God through prayer, and communication is vital in any relationship. So if you want to build a relationship with God and be strong, you need to take your prayer life serious. Remember, a prayer less Christian is a powerless Christian. James 5:13, Matthew 26:41

Live a Life of Holiness and Purity

Without holiness no man can see God. Do away with sins because sin throws Christians into the hands of the Devil and makes them powerless. Even if you fall into a sin, ask for forgiveness of sin immediately and rectify your way with God. Remember, you can’t continue to live in sin and ask for the grace of God to abound. 2 Corinthians 7:1, Romans 6:1.

Do Not Forsake the Assembly of Brethrens

As Christians, we need one another. You need someone to encourage you, someone you can talk to in times of trials, and you can mostly find these like-minded people in the house of God. So do not forsake the assembly of brethrens. Ecclesiastes 4:9-10.
