How to Live a Victorious life as a Christian

1 John 5:4 (NLT)

Living in Victory is not living the fantasy fairytale life free of troubles as most Christians think rather here is what the word says; “For every child of God defeats this evil world, and we achieve this victory through our faith” (1 John 5:4 NLT). There is no victory without war. In dictionary terms Victory is; “An act of defeating an enemy or opponent in a battle, game, or other competition”.

3 things are characteristic about Victory;

The Enemy. As long as we belong to God and stand for His kingdom, we have a sure enemy, believe it or not. This enemy dared oppose God himself and tempted Jesus as well; “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour” (1 Peter 5:8). This scripture reveals that the enemy is really hardworking but not to worry, you have only got to be vigilant & sober to defeat him. He will always want to strike because he is an antagonist of God’s will; “For a great door and effectual is opened unto me, and there are many adversaries” (1Corithinans 16:9).

Unfortunately a lot of Christians are not sober or vigilant especially with devoting, praying and fasting because they do not always see the enemy around; he is always there, his works are manifest in all the earth, you must always fight; “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places” (Ephesians 6:12).

The Victor. We are always victorious; God has made us a little better than usual Victors, he made us more than conquerors (Romans 8:37) because he fights the battle and gives us the victory. All you need to do is start fighting form the end, the winning end.

Attaining Victory. The first step to Victory is understanding that there is war; “And of the children of Issachar, which were men that had understanding of the times” (1Chronicles 12:32). The next step is win the victory in your mind. Stop feeling bad about troubles rather embrace them because the world surely promises this; “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world” (John 16:33). God promises a way out of troubles (1 Corinthians 10:13) so this should be our predisposition during troubles; “Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope” (Romans 5:3-4 NIV). In addition, we must act victory by praying (several kinds of prayers especially warfare), confessing, sowing, working towards our victory. This is how we win with faith; “…and we achieve this victory through our faith” (1 John5:4).

Here is God’s promise. The world outside the kingdom is dark and filled with troubles but God promises to win the victory for us; “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world” (John 16:33). He also promises to turn troubles for our good while showing us a way out; we already won even before the war started.

“There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it” (1 Corinthians 10:13)

“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose” (Romans 8:28)
