Have you been wronged or hurt so much by someone and you have been angry and bitter about it so much that the bitterness is now affecting you? Is it a betrayal from a friend or spouse? Or is it something that someone said to you? Have you been looking for ways to let it go and be free? Then this is for you!

Strong emotions such as anger, resentment, bitterness, deep sadness blows out the candle of joy in people’s life, leaving their soul in darkness. All these strong emotions especially bitterness affect mental and physical health negatively. It can also increase anxiety and depression.

Bitterness starts out little by little, and it’s like a slow poison. Once bitterness has its root in someone, it will be difficult to heal. So the earlier you let go of the bitterness and resentment within you, the better for you.

Now the question is; how can I release this bitterness and resentment within me? You don’t have to worry or go far in search of remedy for bitterness, I have one right here for you—the word of God. As a believer, you need the power in the word of God to help you overcome the bitterness and resentment within you.

The word of God teaches us make peace with everyone and we should not allow bitterness to have its root within us.

“Strive for peace with everyone, and for the holiness without no man will see the Lord. See to it that no one fails to obtain the grace of God; that no ‘root of bitterness’ springs up and causes trouble” Hebrews 12:14-15.

The word of God also speaks on bitterness and its members, warning us to get rid of it.

“Let all bitterness and wrath, anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with malice. Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as G0d forgave you” Ephesians 4: 31-32.

The scripture above tells us that God is forgiving, so you need to also forgive whoever hurts or offend you. As a Christian, keeping malice and getting bitter with someone is a sin, and without holiness, we cannot see God.

The first step towards your healing from bitterness is forgiveness. Forgiveness is a choice you make on your own. You don’t need the person who hurts or offend you to apologize to you or change their ways. Just forgive and let go because God also forgive your sins. Once you take that bold step of forgiveness, then your healing process begins.

The word of God in Matthew 18:21-22 tells us to forgive seventy seven times. Since nobody can offend you seventy seven times, so you have no excuse not to forgive whoever offends you.

You can even practice forgiveness in advance. A friend of mine once told me that, “nobody can offend me,” and I was like “how”? Then she said “I learned to forgive people even before anybody hurt or offend me, that way, I won’t be hurt deeply and I can easily let go” I was actually surprised, so I gave it a try, and it works for me. You can do that also. Ask God for grace to be able for forgive easily and He will help you.

Pray to God to help you with your process of healing and ask him to give you peace all about and fill your heart with joy to replace the bitterness and anger within you.

Remember that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, so you cannot harbor bitterness and anger in your body. The Holy Spirit dwells within you, and a Christian without the Holy Spirit is empty. If you harbor bitterness within you, the Holy Spirit will be forced to leave. As the name implies, the Holy Spirit is holy, he cannot live where there is bitterness, ager and wrath.

Bitterness is a dangerous emotion, so take a bold step and break free from its grasp today. Stop nursing that bitterness and anger within you with excuses of how much someone has hurt you or how big the offence is, just let it go.

God bless you!
