Everyone experience loneliness at one time or the other in life and the feeling varies. Some people feel lonely because there is nobody around them, while others feel lonely even when they are surrounded by people. So loneliness isn’t just about being alone it also happens when someone feels like there is nobody around that actually cares about them. But I want to remind you that God cares for you. He promise to be with you every time, in every situation and you know His promise never fails. He is right there with you, you just don’t know it. (Isaiah 41:10). Even if the whole world forsakes you and turn away from you, he is always there for you, he will safeguard you, and tenderly look after you. (Deuteronomy 31:6).

So the first step to take to get rid of your loneliness is to move closer to God. Do not get swallowed by the feelings of loneliness, take that time to move closer to God. Draw closer to your creator in your lonely moment. You are never alone when you are alone with God. Move closer to God by meditating on his words, in prayer, and communion; only He can fill that emptiness you feel inside. You can talk to him while walking, cleaning or cooking. He is always there for you. He will comfort you and deliver you. (Psalm 34: 17-18).

The next step is to open your heart to experience God’s love. Open your heart to get a deeper knowledge of God’s love and before you know it, that feelings of loneliness will disappear. God loves you and he wants to help you overcome your loneliness. So take this time to get closer to him, and open your heart to him. He is at the door of your heart knocking and he can only get inside if you allow Him (Revelation 3:20). Open your heart in prayer, praise and worship and giving thanks for the things you have instead of thinking about the things you don’t have.

Connecting with other believers will also help, therefore, make attending worship services compulsory. Join small groups in church; participate in Sunday school and other activities in your local assembly. By doing these, you will meet new and old people that can get over your loneliness. Apart from going to church to get rid of your loneliness, remember that it is a commandment from God, that we shouldn’t forsake the gathering of the brethren (Hebrews 10:25). So obeying God will put your life in the right direction.

You can also redirect your thinking. Instead of you just sitting or lying down and feeling lonely redirect your thinking and energy into doing something you enjoy. Is it cooking, writing, music, photography, and painting? Just direct your energy to whatever you like doing, by doing this, you will gradually get rid of your loneliness. If the things you enjoy doing requires you to go out, you use that opportunity to meet new people.

The last point I will make is to think of your time of loneliness as an opportunity. God can use your time of loneliness to help you determine your purpose and open your eyes to see opportunities around you. Many people get their inspiration to do new and great things when they are lonely. You can also be like that.

So if you are feeling lonely today, take the bold step and break free of your loneliness today! I hope this post encourage you to do so.

God bless you.
