It is of no use if your prayers are not going to be effective. One of the reasons some Christian folks prayers are ineffective is because they have not been taught how to pray properly. When the disciples asked the Lord to teach them to pray in Luke 11, He graciously gave them a format on how to pray but what do we have today? A lot of Christian folks now recite that format as the Lord’s Prayer. How dumb. That is not an effective prayer. The Lord’s prayer for Christians is in John 17: 1 – 26 and the prayer is not meant for recitation but us to often read it to know that the Lord prayed for us and what He prayed for us about.

Confess to one another therefore your faults (your slips, your false steps, your offenses, your sins) and pray [also] for one another, that you may be healed and restored [to a spiritual tone of mind and heart]. The earnest (heartfelt, continued) prayer of a righteous man makes tremendous power available, [dynamic in its working]” James 5: 16. For your prayer to be effective, it must be earnest. That is, heartfelt, continued and you must pray it in faith and righteousness. Remember that the prayer of a sinner is an abomination to the Lord God.

The Lord also instructs us concerning our prayers, “And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words” Matthew 6: 7. Can you see that? We do not keep reciting or repeating the same words and say we are praying. No that is not prayer but blabbing as the Lord said. The best way to pray is to pray in the Spirit. That is pray in tongues. The Apostle said, “I thank God that I speak in tongues more than all of you” 1 Corinthians 14: 18. He understood the effectiveness of praying in tongues. How did he get that understanding? Look at what he said earlier in verse two. “For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men, but to God. Indeed, no one understands him; he utters mysteries in the Spirit” 1 Corinthians 14: 2. So why waste time praying in your understand when you can pray in tongues and be accurate.

When we pray in tongues, we are praying in the Holy Spirit. Again, the Apostle Paul shows us the important of this. “In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And He who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God” Romans 8: 26 -27. You cannot pray in the Spirit and pray amiss.

If you cannot pray in tongues yet, it is very easy. Simply ask the Holy Spirit to fill you and grant you utterance so you can speak and pray in other tongues. He will come into your spirit and you will find yourself speaking in other tongues. Remember you are expected to understand what you are saying because you are praying to God.
