The only way you can relieve sexual tension as an unmarried person is to control yourself. We can’t get rid of sex drive; it is a gift from God. That is how God made us, but we can only express ourselves sexually in marriage. So as a single Christian, you must learn to control your sexual tension and deal with it in a non-sinful way.

Do not consider masturbation at all, it is not an appropriate way to release sexual tension; it is associated with lustful fantasies, and it is a sin before God. So here are some ways that can help release your sexual tension.

  1. Always Remember That Your Body Is The Temple Of The Holy Spirit—1 Corinthians 6:18-20

Always remember that the Holy Spirit dwells in you and things such as sexual immorality are not permitted in your body. Always remember you are bought with a price which is the precious blood of Jesus he shed for you on the cross of Calvary. So you do not own yourself, you belong to God.

  1. Flee From Every Appearances of Evil—1 Thessalonians 5:22-23.

Avoid all forms of unnecessary stimulations. You need to control your thoughts, what you see and where you go. Also try to avoid company that talks about things that can stimulate unnecessary feelings in you. Remember, evil communication corrupts good manner. 1 Corinthians 15:33.

  1. Redirect Your Thoughts

When your sexual urge grows, when you know that you are getting this lustful feeling, redirect your thoughts. You can take a walk, listen to music, sing praise and worship, play instruments, or take a cold shower.

  1. Tell It To God—Psalm 55:22

Pray to God to help you stay holy and pure for Him. Tell Him your problems; tell Him how you are feeling. He knows how your body works, He created you, He knitted you together in your mother’s womb, so He knows how to help you curb your sexual tension.

  1. Do Not Be Idle

An idle man’s mind and hand is the devil workshop. Do not lie on your bed without doing anything, it opens door to sexual arousal and increases your desire. So channel your energy into something meaningful. If there is anything you are good at, get up and do it. Is it cooking, photography, singing, making music…just get busy!

  1. Start Preparing For Responsibility Of Marriage And Family

Yes, it is something good to get married. Even apostle Paul writes about it in 1 Corinthians 7:7-8 that, “To the unmarried and the widows, I say that it is good for them to remain single as I am. But if they cannot exercise self-control, they should marry. For it is better to marry than to burn with passion”

So if you know you can’t control yourself and you keep finding yourself in the sin of sexual immorality, it is better you consider getting married than to lose eternal life.

I hope and pray those points will help you as you strive to handle your sexual tension in a way that honors God. Yes, I know it is not easy, but with God’s help you can do it. Stay strong in faith and pursue a life of purity and holiness.
