Dating as a single parent and a believer requires wisdom and also requires you to make some serious decision. As you know, dating when you have kid(s) is different from dating without kids. So you really need God’s wisdom to balance your love life with your kids and other aspect of your life. So here are some things you need to know or do before you go start dating again.

Be Sure You Are Prepared

When you go into relationship you aren’t prepared for, it may take its toll on you and wear you out. As a single parent, you have to recover from whatever may have happened in the past. I understand that some events in the past can really change us forever, but you just really need to let go. Whether its death, divorce, relationship breakup or some other things, just be sure you have let go of the past before going into a new relationship. Be prepared mentally, physically and emotionally, and let go of your fears. You can do it!

Pray to God’s for Wisdom

Like I have said, as a single parent and a believer, you need wisdom to make some important decisions of your life. God knows more than you and he sees everything you can’t see, so asking Him for help in your new relationship will really go a long way. He will direct your path and even let you know whether the person you are going into a relationship with is right for you. When you give God a chance, the Holy Spirit within you will help you discern what is right for you and what is not. Proverbs 3:5-7.

Date Someone with Same Vision and Goal as You

When you are dating someone that is so different from you, there will always be problem. So date someone you both understand one another. Understanding matters in a relationship.

Also, as a believer, do not forget that God tells us that we should not be equally yoked with unbelievers. If the person you are dating doesn’t have a relationship with Jesus, it will affect your relationship and also hinder your spiritual growth. 2 Corinthians 6:14.

Do Not Leave Out Your Kids

When you are dating and your kids are left out of the whole thing or you don’t really have time for them like you do before, they will start having the feelings that they have been abandoned. They may end up hating the person you are in a relationship with because they believe he/she has taken you away from them. Remember it will be hard for your kids to just accept someone into their like that. Pray to God for wisdom to balance everything out.

Look Out For Red Light

Do not be blinded with love to the extent that you will keep ignoring the stop signals in your relationship. You need to put a stop to the relationship if you discover the person you are in a relationship with is someone that is hot-tempered, demands to be the center of attention at all times or can’t stop his/her ex-spouse from interfering in your relationship.

Do Not Rush Into Marriage

Do not rush into marriage, take your time. Even though the person you are in a relationship with is pressuring you to go into marriage, do not. Take your time to be sure you are really ready for it.

Good luck!
