Top 10 Bibles Verses About Peace

“You have authority over the storm you can sleep in” Bill Johnson. Out on the open sea, the waves are battering the little fisherman’s boat, the wind is howling and the rain is pouring down. The storm is raging and the 12 disciples are scrambling and panicked. Fearing for their lives. Yet, Jesus sleeps through all of this panic and only wakes up when the disciples wake him. He sees their distress and commands the sea and the wind to be calm, Jesus says these words “Peace! Be still.” to the wind and waves and immediately it was calm. (Mark 4:35-41)

How was Jesus able to sleep in the middle of such a storm, and how was he able to calm the storm? You see, Jesus in the prince of peace. His whole life is centred around peace and being peaceful. So, when Jesus rebuked the storm, he did so out of peace, not panic. When we are panicked, we don’t think clearly and we make mistakes and wrong decisions. Yet, when we welcome in Jesus and his peace, we are then able to stand up in the middle of our storm and bring calmness.

Build up the peace in your own lives with these scriptures:

The psalmist shows his utmost faith in the protection of the father when he says “In peace I will both lie down and sleep; for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.” (Psalm 4:8)

Before Jesus is betrayed in the garden, he speaks to his disciples and gives them his peace, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and to not be afraid” (John 14:27), he knew what was waiting for them on the other side of the cross. He knows what all of us go through, that is why he gave his disciples his peace, so that their hearts are not troubled.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6-7)

Paul knows that the church in Philippi is anxious and frightened, and it is in this space that he tells them to let their gentleness be evident to all. It is not possible to be gentle but not peaceful. It can be argued that the path to peace is paved with prayer, petition and thanksgiving.
