VBS Pledges to the Bible

To pledge allegiance to something is to give your word of honor, your guarantee of loyalty. There are three pledges that Christians often recite, and are included in many vacation Bible schools. VBS pledges to the Bible, the Christian flag, and the American flag are a way that Christians want to show their loyalty and respect to their country and their Savior.

To begin each day at Vacation Bible school, reciting the pledges is a good way to start the day. Loyalty to our country and our Savior doesn’t have to be saved for certain VBS themes. Loyalty fits every theme. When you have the children recite the VBS pledges to the Bible, Christian flag and American flag, you may want to choose different children each day to hold the flags and the Bible.

This gives each of them a chance to be involved individually. If your flags are the larger, heavier flags, one child can stand by the flag and be encouraged to be the example of how to pledge. The VBS pledges to the Bible, the Christian flag, and the American flag are as follows:

Pledge to the Bible I pledge allegiance to the Bible, God’s Holy Word. A lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path, its words will I hide in my heart, that I might not sin against God. Pledge to the Christian flag “I pledge allegiance to the Christian Flag and to our Savior, for whose kingdom it stands, one Savior, crucified, risen and coming again, with life and liberty for all who believe.”

Pledge to the American flag-The Pledge of Allegiance I pledge Allegiance to the flagof the United States of Americaand to the Republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for all.
