For a Christian, bearing fruits is not negotiable because it is a command from the Lord Jesus Christ for us to bear fruits and for our fruits to abide. “You did not choose Me, but I chose you, and appointed you, that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask of the Father in My name, He may give to you” John 15: 16. The most important reason you must bear fruit as a Christian is for the Father to grant you whatever you ask Him in the Name of the Lord Jesus.

There is a serious risk of not bearing fruit as a Christian. The God will cut off such individual that fails to bear fruits because he is useless, unproductive and a liability to the vine. The Lord Jesus Christ said, “I am the true vine, and My Father is the keeper of the vineyard. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful” John 15: 1 – 2.

After knowing the main benefit of bearing fruit and the demerit of not bearing fruit, the key to bearing fruit as a Christian is to remain firmly attached to the true vine. The Jesus Christ said He is the One that chose and appointed you to go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide. He is the true vine you should remain plugged to for nutrients, strength, stability, and sustenance. “I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing” John 15: 5. If you allow anything like persecution, trials, temptation, or cares of this world to separate you from the vine, you will become barren. “Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.” Matthew 7: 19.

Another thing you must do to remain productive is to increase in the knowledge of God. Be a Word-addict. Study, meditate and practice living by the Word and you will invariably be fruitful in every way. “So as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God” Colossians 1: 10. When you are fruitful and productive, the Father will be happy with you. You will bring Him glory. “By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples” John 15: 8. A Christian that is fruitful will abound in love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. He will bear fruits of righteousness that will be seen by all. “Filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God” Philippians 1: 11. “For the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true” Ephesians 5: 9.
